It’s an open secret that Kenya is a country full of ironies. Just days after anti-counterfeit agency boss John Akoten was discovered to be using a car with a fake number plate and an altered tracking gadget, Kenyan authorities have once again been left with egg on their face after a senior police officer got kidnapped.
In what seem to be proof that most crooks are well-equipped than Kenyan police officers, the senior cop, whose identity we chose not to reveal for security reasons, was waylaid in traffic, pulled out of his car and bungled into the boot of an awaiting Probox on his way to a press conference.
“One of our bosses has over the weekend kidnapped. The irony of it is that he was going to a press conference to release a report showing how crime rate had drastically dropped across the country. Would you believe that,” an impeccable source, who requested anonymity, whispered to this reporter amid giggles.
“This is a big blow to us bwana... months of cooking statistics have now been wasted! Whoever did this should have thought of the wider implications. Look, time and public resources had been poured into this exercise,” added the source.
According to the source, the cop’s car, which was left with the engine running, caused a traffic pile up before it was later towed away. The briefcase containing the statistics he was going to present was left intact in the car.
Immediately after the incident the police blamed members of the public for not responding quickly to the officer’s distress call.
“The officer screamed for help, but there was no civilian to help him. What’s the point of having civilians everywhere when they are incapable of assisting a police officer in need?! Whom do the members of the public expect officers to turn to in such times if not them? We know we have let them down a couple of times in the past, but that is no reason to revenge!” One angry police officer is quoted as saying
